Vicky Donor remains one of Bollywood’s most refreshing and avant-garde films to date. For being a comedy, the film also dealt beautifully with human emotions, and brought a pertinent, often scorned topic like sperm donation and IVF into mainstream limelight. Both the characters and story have remained fresh in audiences’ minds even after six years, and the subject is such that it could easly have a sequel.
While recently speaking to the film’s producer, John Abraham, (Vicky Donor was incidentally his first production) we broached the subject of a sequel, and to our great surprise, he revealed that he actually has plans for one in the near future.
“My collaboration with Shoojit Sircar has been very good. But, I think he’s been very busy of late. So, whenever he has the time, I’ll go and meet him. But he’s genuinely been very busy. We do speak once in a while, and it’s fantastic to see all that he’s achieved, and am so happy for him. There are many special subjects coming up under my production in the next three to four years, and Vicky Donor 2 should be among them. I won’t be in it though. We’re looking for the right cast for the film, and I hope someone sees sense in doing it because it’s again going to be centered on sperm donation, and, you know, people get worried doing such subject. Moreover, with me you never know where it’s going to go, so they get really worried”
The fact that John said his team is “looking for the right cast”, makes us wonder if Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam, and Annu Kapoor will be a part of the film. Nevertheless, a sequel to Vicky Donor would be amazing, and we hope that John’s plans for it fall into place.
