She’s known as Lady Superstar, and it’s a sobriquet that she has acquired courtesy her tremendous talent and sizzling star power that shone through over years of hard work and meticulous planning. Nayanthara has lived up to the billing of Lady Superstar as she’s the only South actress who can carry a film completely on her own merit. Striking a harmonious balance between appearing in massy hero-centric films like Iru Mugan and Babu Bangaram, and forging her own path in movies like Maya and Dora, not to mention the push she’s given many male newcomers who’ve starred opposite her Nayanthara is almost like the one-stop name for both Tamil and Telugu filmmakers when it comes to merging quality with commercialism.
Adept at drawing huge crowds regardless if she’s headlining a film or appearing opposite a popular her; Nayanthara’s star power with the audience is unmatched, and the manner in which her onscreen swag rivals that of the most-massy of leading men is testament to how big a draw she is today. So, with huge expectations, we take a look at Nayanthara’s forthcoming films, which we feel could set the box-office on fire.
1.) Imaikkaa Nodigal

Playing both a cop and a mother, Nayanthara looks set to kick some major butt in Imaikkaa Nodigal, which also stars Atharvaa as her brother, Raashi Khanna, and Bollywood Director, Anurag Kashyap, as the main antagonist, also marking his Tamil acting debut. It’s generally considered suicidal for South heroines to play mother’s roles, Nayanthara broke the trend to a thunderous response two years ago with the horror film, Maya, and is set on repeating that feat this time, too. Her role, which has been described as that of a strong female protagonist, promises to portray Nayanthara as a major ass-kicking, tough-as-nails cop, and we can’t wait to see her take on the bad guys. Vijay Sethupathi in her cameo as her romantic interest is the icing on the cake.
2.) Kolaiyuthir Kaalam

This murder mystery looks tailor-made as a quintessential Nayanthara showcase, and if the twists and turns are done right, we expect the film to move headlong toward critical and commercial success. In fact, the film has generated so much pre-release interest, that a Hindi remake has already been planned with Tamannaah Bhatia set to reprise Nayanthara’s role. It’s also going to be India’s first film to be shot in an 8k format.

Nayanthara plays a district collector in this one, who champions the cause of the simple farmers of a bunch of villages she’s newly appointed to, after learning the atrocities they’ve suffered at the hands of a ruthless industrialist. Honestly, only Lady Superstar can be imagined in such roles that have been traditionally played by male actors.

To round it off, the actress has a nice, neat-looking massy film, opposite Sivakarthikeyan, in her kitty, where she’s playing his romantic interest. The premise of a bunch of slum dwellers sticking it up to a big corporation looks like a sure-shot success, and Nayanthara and Sivakarthikeyan’s virgin pairing is sure to draw the audience in huge numbers.
The year, 2017, looks super-exciting if you’re a Nayanthara fan as each and every of her upcoming films look like a good bet both critically and at the box-office.
