2017 is fast drawing towards an end, and so far, it has not been a great year. While some small films made a huge profit, bigger films like Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal turned out to be major disappointments.


However, the Industry has given us enough reason to look forward to 2018. From Sci-Fi, action to romance, the line-up of 2018 has it all. Let’s take a look at films lined up for release in 2018.

2.O

Directed by S. Shakar, 2.O is the sequel of 2010 Tamil film Enthiran. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar will be seen playing the main antagonist. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and also stars Amy Jackson. 2.O is scheduled to release on 25th January, 2018 and the trailer of the film is expected to be out in December.

2.O is touted to be the most expensive Indian film, and is expected to shatter all Box Office records.

Aiyaary

Aiyaary is an upcoming crime drama which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Baypayee, and Rakulpreet Singh in lead roles. The film is being helmed by Neeraj Pandey and is a mentor – protégée story who are in the army.

The film is being filmed in Kashmir, Delhi and London, and is scheduled to release on Republic Day 2018.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, Manikarnika is an epic – biographical film on the story of Rani Laxmibai or Jhansi Ki Rani. Kangana has been learning sword fighting for the film and even sustained injuries on her face. The film is being directed by Krish, and is scheduled to release on 27th April, 2018.

Dutt Biopic

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in the lead role in the Sanjay Dutt biopic. The film will show all aspects of Sanjay Dutt’s life, and Ranbir will be seen sporting five distinct looks. Dutt biopic also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karishma Tanna, Dia Mirza and Vicky Kaushal.

The official title of the film is yet to be announced, and the film will release on 30th March, 2018.

Padman

Akshay Kumar starrer Padman is a biopic on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who made low cost sanitary pads, and tried to break the taboo around the subject. The film is being directed by R Balki, and also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles.

Release date of Padman is 13th April, 2018.

Baaghi 2

Tiger Shroff - Shraddha Kapoor starrer Baaghi was one of the biggest Box office hits of 2016, and Baaghi 2 is scheduled to release on 27th April, 2018. The second instalment is being helmed by Ahmed Khan and stars Disha Patani as the female lead.

International stunt directors have been roped in for the film, and Tiger Shroff is also going to shave off his head for the film.

Drive

Helmed by Tarun Mansukhani, Drive stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles. Teaser posted of Drive showed the lead couple posing with a car.

Presented by Dharma Productions, Drive is scheduled to release on 2nd March, which is the Holi weekend.

Thugs of Hindostan

A YRF magnum opus, Thugs of Hindostan stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film is being directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and is being filmed in Malta.

Thugs of Hindostan is scheduled to release on Diwali 2018, and is expected to be a blockbuster at the box office.

Gold

From the last two years, Akshay Kumar’s films have ruled the Independence Day weekend, and Gold will be Akshay’s third release on this major Holiday weekend. Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold marks the first collaboration between Akshay and Excel entertainment. The film will also mark the Bollywood debut of Mouni Roy, and also stars Kunal Kapoor and Amit Sadh.

The story of Gold is about India’s first Olympic victory in Hockey post-Independence.

URI

A Ronnie Screwvala production, Uri is the story of surgical attacks by Indian army after infiltration attempts on URI army base in September 2016. Vicky Kaushal will play lead role in the film, which is scheduled to release in September 2018

Raazi

A Dharma Productions, Raazi, which stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles, is based on a novel titled Calling Sehmat. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the story of the film revolves around a spy who gets married to a Pakistani Army officer.

The film is being shot in Patiala and Kashmir, and is scheduled to release on 11th May, 2018.

Deepika Padukone – Irrfan Khan film

After the success of Piku, Deepika and Irrfan have once again teamed up for a film. It was rumoured that the film was a biopic of gangster Sapna didi, but Vishal Bhardwaj, who is producing the film, refuted all such claims.

The film is a collaboration between T Series, Kriarj and Vishal Bhardwaj, and is slated to release in October, 2018.

Sui Dhaga – Made in India

Starring Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, Sui Dhaga is based on the concept of make in India. The film will be helmed by Sharat Katariya and produced by YRF. It is being reported that Varun Dhawan will play a daily wage labourer in the film.

The release of Sui Dhaga has been planned to coincode with Gandhi Jayanti weekend, and the film will hit the screen on 28th September, 2018.

October

Starring Varun Dhawan and debutante Banita Sandhu in lead roles, Shoojit Sircar’s October is touted to be a love story with a twist. The film is being written by Juhi Chaturvedi and is scheduled to release on 1st June, 2018.

Race 3

Produced by Ramesh Taurani, the film stars Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles. The film will be helmed by Remo D’Souza. It is being said that Salman will play a negative role in the film, and another hero is being roped in.

Considering Salman’s previous Box Office record, and the fact that the film is releasing on Eid, this one is being touted as a blockbuster.

Dwarf Film

Aanand L Rai will be collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan for the first time in this yet to be titled film. SRK will be seen playing the role of a dwarf, and the film also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.

The film will have a lot of VFX, and the box office prospects of the film look promising. Dwarf film is scheduled to release on 21st December, 2018.

Pari

After NH 10 and Phillauri, Pari is Anushka Sharma’s third home production. The film stars Anushka and Parambrata Chatterjee in lead roles. The film is reportedly a supernatural thriller and is scheduled to release on 13th June, 2017.

Gully Boy

Helmed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The story of the film is reportedly inspired by the life of street rappers named Neazy and Divine, who live in the slums of Mumbai.

The release date of the film is yet to be announced.

Raid

After Baadshaaho, Ajay Devgn will team up with Ileana D’Cruz for Raid. The film is set in the 80s and Ajay will play the role of an Income Tax Officer in the film.

The film will release on 16th March, 2018.

Ajay Devgn’s Untitled rom com

After Raid, Ajay Devgn will be seen in a rom com which also stars Tabu. The yet untitled film is being produced by T Series and Luv films, and will also star another female lead.

The film will release on 19th October, 2018, which happens to be Dussehra weekend.

Fanney Khan

After Taal, Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will reunite onscreen for Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Fanney Khan. The film is an official remake of Dutch film Everybody’s Famous and also stars Rajkummar Rao.

Release date of the film has not been announced.

Hichki

After Mardaani, Rani Mukherjee will make a comeback in Bollywood with YRF’s Hichki. The film is being directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and is supposed to be an inspirational story. The film will release on 23rd February, 2018.

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

After Ishaqzaade, Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra will reunite for Dibakar Banrejee’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. The film is about the story of a man and a woman who represent two different sections of the country. The film will release on 3rd August, 2018.

Kedarnath

Sushant Singh Rajput made his Bollywood debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che, and now he is working with the director again in Kedarnath. The film is a love story which will mark the debut of Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan.

The film is currently being shot in Kedarnath and release date is yet to be announced.

Saaho

After Baahubali, Prabhas will be seen in Saaho, which is a futuristic action film. The film is being directed by Sujeeth and also stars Shraddha Kapoor. The film is a Hindi Tamil Telugu trilingual and the release date of the film is yet to be announced, considering the box office records set by Baahubali, Saaho could be a major grosser too.

Veere Di Wedding

 

A quintessential chick flick, Veere Di Wedding stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaker and Shikha Talsania in lead roles. The film is being shot in Delhi and is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor.

The release date of the film is still awaited.
