Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Toilet- Ek Prem Katha released yesterday in theatres. The anticipation for the film was high because of its unusual subject and the fact that Akshay’s films in past couple of years have worked so well consistently. It seems that the film is living up to the expectations of everyone as it has opened to a good start.
According to the estimates, the film raked in Rs. 13.10 Crore on day 1 at the box office. This indeed is a decent opening for that Akshay-Bhumi starrer. The film is being appreciated by audiences for the thoughtful message that it gives. With this, the film becomes 6th highest opener of 2017.
|Film||Day One in Nett (INR)|
|Baahubali 2 (Hindi Version Only)||41 Crore|
|Jab Harry Met Sejal||15.25 Crore|
|Jolly LLB 2||13.20 Crore|
|Toilet- Ek Prem Katha||13.10 Crore|
The film was expected to open with a collection of around Rs. 10-11 Crore, as per the early predictions. It seems that the film picked up in the evenings and occupancy was increased. This indeed is a good sign for the film.
Akshay Kumar’s earlier films also opened with similar numbers. His earlier release of the year Jolly LLB2 collected Rs. 13.20 Crore on the first day and later reached much higher numbers because of good response. It is expected that TEPK will also pick up over the weekend as the word-of-mouth is very strong. Because of favourable reviews and good reactions from audiences, the numbers will grow and the film will end up as a hit which the industry desperately needs.
