Kamal Haasan’s Thoongaavanam may have not struck gold at the box-office but it sure has impressed a big studio in Bollywood. The film, which is based on French thriller Sleepless Night, is all set to be remade in Hindi. According to a reliable source, the remake rights have been sold for a whopping price already.
While it’s still not sure who will reprise Kamal’s role, the source reveals that Akshay Kumar is the front-runner. Thoongaavanam, which released alongside Ajith’s Vedalam, turned out to be an average grosser at the ticket window, majorly appealing to only the multiplex audience. Even the Telugu version, which was titled Cheekati Rajyam, failed to rake in the moolah.
The film’s distributors suffered losses because of the film. Even though the critics loved it, the film just couldn’t create the magic of Papanasam, Kamal’s earlier release of the year. The film, also starring Trisha Krishnan, was set against the backdrop of a night club and revolved around a missing bag of cocaine.
