Bollywood has given us iconic scenes for every festival and Diwali is no exception. From lavish costumes and loud fireworks to elaborate dance numbers and intimate pooja – Bollywood movies haven’t just celebrated Diwali, but given us goals on how to go about preparing for the festival of lights. Here are eight of the most-iconic Diwali celebrations in Bollywood movies.

No one depicts festivities with more pomp and verve than Karan Johar, and he was in all his elements in K3G, not least in the momentous Diwali scene in the Raichand house, with Jaya Bachchan singing the title song and Shah Rukh Khan making his famous entry.
2.) The gurukul boys slipping out to celebrate Diwali with their girlfriends in Mohabbatein

Symbolic in some ways, this community Diwali affair had Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansrag, and Jimmy Sheirgill breaking Amitabh Bachchan’s rigid rules to dress in the best of sherwanis and dance around with their girls to the tune of Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai during a community Diwali celebration.
3.) The local girls teasing the boys to beware of city chicks while celebrating Diwali in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

Apart from its cycle race, Pehla Nasha, and Aamir Khan’s coming-of-age performance, JJWS is also known for its simplistic Diwali celebration between a group of local boys and girls, where Ayesha Jhulka jovially warns Aamir Khan to beware of the allure of high-society girls in the song, Shehar Ki Pariyon.
4.) Rosie shedding all pretense while dancing to a Diwali number in Guide

Diwali offered the perfect opportunity for Waheeda Rehman’s Rosie to shed all inhibitions and charades and just let herself go while tapping her feet to the tunes of Piya Tose Naina Lage Re, urging Dev Anand’s Raju to reciprocate her stance.

Again a Diwali scene of a different kind, and one-of-the-most heartbreaking ones you’ll ever see. While his entire family and the entire neighborhood are celebrating Diwali a crestfallen Ishaan Awasthi played by Darsheel Safary looks on because he’s been shipped to a boarding school the following day.
7.) The entire neighborhood using Diwali as an opportunity to celebrate Raju’s job appointment in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman

A frugal yet homely Diwali celebration, where the lesser-privileged showed their heart by partaking in Shah Rukh Khan’s success while he sang the melodious title track of the film.

The movie may have tanked, but there’s no denying that this energetic dance track is one-of-the-best Diwali songs you’ll ever hear.
