Gollapudi Srinivas: The Director Who Had Died On Set During Ajith Kumar’S Debut Film

Ajith Kumar has completed 25 years in the industry. He began his career on 2nd August 1992, when he had canned his first shot for his debut film, Prema Pusthakam. It was a humble beginning in a Telugu film, post which he has to struggle for quite a few years before going on to become one of the biggest moviestars in India, and Kollywood’s one-and-only Thala.

However, what many don’t know is that a real tragedy had occurred during the shoot of Ajith’s very first film. Gollapudi Srinivas, who was originally the Director with the film, had died midway during production, after which his father, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, completed the project. Srinivas had passed away while on set, and it was a devastating setback for the entire cast and crew. However, after the last rites were performed, his father motivated the unit to soldier on so that his son’s dream could be completed.

Not many actors have begun their careers with such tragedy. But, as with most of his obstacles, Ajith only emerged stronger from it.
