Everyone is super excited to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui give another brilliant performance in the eponymous role of Shiv Sena supremo and one of India’s most renowned as well as controversial political figures, Balasaheb Thackeray. The Thackeray biopic has been on the radar of not just film-buffs, but even casual audiences ever since its announcement, and Nawaz’s first look and the film’s teaser is anything to go by, then Thackeray could be a treat of a biopic. And now we hear that an actress, who’s been away from films for five years, will be making a comeback with Thackeray.
Reportedly, Amrita Rao has been roped in to play Nawaz aka Balasaheb’s wife Meena Thackeray, popularly known as Meenatai. She was known to be Thackeray’s biggest support system, and always had his ear in all his important decision. In fact, Meenatai was one of the first people Thackeray used to always turn to for advice whenever he faced a quandary. We must say, that Amrita couldn’t have bargained for a better comeback after being five years away from Bollywood (her last release was 2013’s Satyagraha).
Thackeray is being directed by Sanjay Raut, and will be released as a bilingual (Hindi and Marathi) on 23rd January 2018, where it’ll compete with three big Hindi films, Super 30, Manikarnika, and Cheat India.
