These days, long weekends and subsequent holiday clashes have become a major talking point in the industry. The basic premise behind scheduling releases of films which have superstars on long weekends is pretty simple; the films which have superstars in the lead are made on bigger budgets and releasing them on long weekends improves the probability of a better turnout.
However, since makers of most films with a major star in the lead target long weekends, clashes have become fairly common. In the past few months, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raaes clashed with Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil on Republic Day 2017, Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil clashed with Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay on Diwali 2016 and Akshay Kumar’s Rustom clashed with Hrithik’s Mohenjo Daro on Independence Day 2016.
And to avoid such clashes, release dates of big films which are targeting a holiday release in 2018 have already been announced. Interestingly, even the casting of some of these films has not been completed yet.
