Born on 6th July, 1985, Ranveer Singh Bhavnani was born in a Sindhi family in Mumbai. Son of Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, Ranveer had a keen interest in acting and drama since he was a child and used to participate in various school plays and debates. Since he is related to Anil Kapoor (Sonam Kapoor’s mom, Sunita Kapoor is Ranveer’s paternal aunt), he had decent exposure to film industry, however he felt that since he didn’t really belong to a film family, chances of him getting a break in the Industry were bleak.
After receiving a degree in arts from Indiana University in US, Ranveer returned to India and worked in advertising for a couple of years. But, then he decided to pursue his passion and started auditioning for various roles. He also changed his name to Ranveer Singh to add more commercial appeal. For the longest time, he did not get a break and almost lost hope. He has spoken about his days and struggle many times and admitted that he used to wonder if he had taken the correct decision.
Debut and instant success (2010 – 2012)
In January 2010, Ranveer received a call from YRF’s Shanoo Sharma for an audition, who asked him to audition for the lead role in an upcoming rom –com. After two weeks of auditions with Maneesh Sharma and even Aditya Chopra, Ranveer bagged the lead role in Band Baaja Baarat. When the film released, even Anushka Sharma wasn’t that popular, but their earnest performances and great story ensured that the film became a hit.

Despite clashing with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale, the film was a commercial success and won the lead actors a lot of critical acclaim.
