Both the new releases this week, Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 and T-Series’ Junooniyat have crawled at the domestic box-office over the weekend. Arriving among a slew of films in what was one of the most crowded weeks in terms of movie releases at cinema halls, these were two films that were expected to put up decent totals. However, with nett collections of about Rs. 4 crore and Rs. 2.50 crore, both Raman Raghav 2.0 and Junooniyat will now struggle to even recover their costs.
In comparison, Shahid Kapoor’s Udta Punjab fared better in its second weekend, though it, too, witnessed massive drops considering its positive first week. The sci-fi flick, Independence Day: Resurgence, dominated all the new releases and Udta Punjab. Here’s how the weekend collections of all four films stack up:
|Film||Collections in Nett|
|Independence Day: Resurgence||Rs. 16.90 crore|
|Udta Punjab||Rs. 6.25 crore (approx)|
|Raman Raghav 2.0||Rs. 4 crore (approx)|
|Junooniyat||Rs. 2.50 crore (approx)|
In fact, Resurgence‘s figures are higher than that of all the Bollywood films running in theaters this week put together, laying credence once again to the serious threat local cinema is facing from Hollywood. With Salman Khan’s Sultan releasing on Eid and Independence Day: Resurgence going strong, things are not looking bright for both Raman Raghav 2.0 and Junooniyat. Even steady holds over the week and decent jumps in their second weekend may not help them now.
The other Hindi films that released 7 Hours to Go, A Scandall, Dil Toh Deewana Hai, and Homestay were total washout.
