There seems to be no saving grace for Pataakha as the film failed to capitalize on the big national holiday on day five. Having already emerged a disaster at the box-office, there was a semblance of hope that the Sanya Malhotra-Radhika Madan-Sunil Grover starrer could have cut its losses by a much-needed boost on Gandhi Jayanti, but that, too, proved to be nothing more than a false dawn as the film barely fared better on Tuesday than it has hitherto done on any other day at the ticket window. Collecting Rs. 1.56 crore nett yesterday, the film now stands at a poor Rs. 6.55 crore nett after five days, and appears to be going nowhere, especially with a landing cost of Rs. 20 crore.
|Day One (Friday)||90 lakh|
|Day Two (Saturday)||1.40 crore|
|Day Three (Sunday)||1.75 crore|
|Day Four (Monday)||94 crore|
|Day Five (Tuesday)||1.56 crore|
It’s time that makers of such offbeat film woke up and found alternative avenues like Netflix and Amazon to release their projects, which will definitely minimize losses and maximize visibility, in turn, resulting in better revenue. Such films are no doubt made with a lot of effort, love, and conviction, and also no doubt have an audience. But that audience is not to be found in theaters.
