Both Paltan and Laila Majnu have registered disastrous collections in their opening weekends at the box-office. While the J.P. Dutta ensemble war drama did manage a vestige of growth on Sunday, it was hardly anything that could help the film in the long run. On the other hand, the new romantic release was flat right through the weekend, and it’d be surprising if theaters even retain its shows during the weekdays.
|Film||Opening Weekend Nett (INR)|
|Laila Majnu||1.55 crore|
Paltan will not only fail to come close to the lifetime collections of Dutta’s last flop war film, L.O.C. Kargil, which had released back in 2003, but it’ll also fall well short of his monumental blockbuster war film, Border. The once great Director is sure finding it difficult to recreate his past glory. But if you thought that was shocking then get a load of this: Laila Majnu will fail to reach the collections of the Rishi Kapoor blockbuster by the same name, which had released way back in 1976.
The collections of the third new release of the week, Manoj Bajpayee’s Gali Guleiyan, aren’t worth elaborating on as the film has failed to cross even 20 lakh nett at the box-office in its opening weekend.
