P Bharathiraja’s OM (Old Man) to open the third Singapore South Asian International Film Festival

Padma Shri awardee and six times National Award winning filmmaker P Bharathiraja’s OM (Old Man) will be the opening film at the third edition of Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (3rd Sg.SAIFF). The filmmaker will be present at the festival and will be honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award.

Festival Director Narayanan Srinivasan confirms, “We are happy to have a great line up of films this year. With Bharathiraja being present himself, it would be a great honour for us to open the festival with his film OM. What is amazing for me is, while Bharathiraja explored the relationship between an elderly man and young woman in his 1985 film Muthal Mariyathai, he returns to the theme from a totally unexpected and unexplored angle.”

Bharathiraja known for introducing new stars and technicians successfully introduced Nakshatra in lead role With Joe Malloori and Mounika in supporting cast in OM while the film had Bharathiraja himself playing a pivotal role.

Sg.SAIFF to be held ‪from 30th August to 7th September‬ will screen more than 50 films this year from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Singapore, Bangladesh and Iran.

Started in year 2017, with two successful years behind, the festival serves as a unique opportunity for a cultural interaction between South Asia and Singapore with several panel discussions, master classes and other business networking sessions.
