Weekend Box-Office Report: Ok Jaanu Vs. Xxx: Return Of Xander Cage Vs. Dangal

NEWS

After taking a middling start and showing minimal growth on day two, Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer, Ok Jaanu, needed a jump of about 60-70% if it had any hope of recovering costs. However, forget about growing, the romantic-musical saw a drop in collections, bringing in merely Rs. 4.82 crore nett on day three at the domestic box-office, which has all but sealed its fate. Even if the Shaad Ali film holds well during the weekdays, it still has little to no chance of breaking even.

Day-Wise Collections in Nett (INR)
Day One (Friday) 4.08 crore
Day Two (Saturday) 4.90 crore
Day Three (Sunday) 4.82 crore
Total 13.80 crore

In stark contrast, Dangal, is still chugging along impressively at the ticket window, bringing in Rs. 4.65 crore nett on its fourth Sunday, which is almost as much as Ok Jaanu managed on its first Sunday. Along with pushing its lifetime total to a scarcely believable Rs. 370.50 crore nett, the Nitesh Tiwari film has also added another feather to its cap, that of the highest-weekend collection, breaking Aamir Khan’s own record held previously by PK.

Film Fourth Weekend in Nett (INR)
Dangal 10.65 crore
PK 8.65 crore

However, the winner this weekend was Deepika Padukone’s Hollywood debut, xXx: Return of Xander Cage. After rocking its opening day (which, incidentally was on Saturday, with only paid previews being held on Friday), the Vin Diesel-Donnie Yen-Deepika starrer did show a slight drop on day two, but that was mostly due to the India vs. England cricket match affecting its collections. Bringing in Rs. 6.25 crore nett, the film has taken its 2-day total to extremely positive Rs. 15.25 crore nett, which is higher than what Ok Jaanu collected over three whole days.

Day-Wise Collections in Nett (INR)
Paid Previews (Friday) 2 crore
Day One (Saturday) 7 crore
Day Two (Sunday) 15.25 crore
Total 16.75 crore

Dangal is already an all-time blockbuster, xXx: Return of Xander Cage is poised to be another Hollywood hit in India, and Ok Jaanu looks set to be the first flop of 2017 as only a miracle can save it now.
