Varun Dhawan has well and truly pulled his weight to give his latest release October some semblance of hope of not only breaking even, but, possibly, even turning over a profit at the box-office, which looked highly unlikely going by its opening day, After taking a slow start, the film has witnessed miraculous growth of 55% on day two, to bring in Rs. 7.81 crore nett and take hitherto its total to a respectable Rs. 12.85 crore nett.
|Day-Wise||Nett Collection (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||5.04 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||7.81 crore|
Despite the generally glowing reviews from the critics, the word-of-mouth is extremely mixed, which again goes to show the kind of goodwill and pull Varun Dhawan has generated both with the multiplex and single-screen audience over a short career in A, B, and C centers. The major upswing (65-70%) on Saturday came in tier-A multiplexes while Varun’s core fan-base in single screens (40-45%) as well as in tier-B and C multiplexes (45-50%) also emerged for the film.
If October puts up similar numbers on Sunday, and then holds well from Monday onward, it could just well turn out to be one of the biggest surprise hits of the year, given the mid-level costs involved.
