After a middling start on Friday, October really came into its own over the weekend, witnessing a massive jump on Saturday, and continuing the trend on Sunday to finish its first weekend with a healthy collection of Rs. 20.05 crore nett. The major credit for this has to go to the film’s leading man, Varun Dhawan, who’s star-power has proved a deciding factor in driving multiplex business in metros while also holding the film above water in urban single screens, and all over in B and C centers.
|Day-Wise||Nett Collection (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||5.04 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||7.47 crore|
|Day Three (Sunday)||7.74 crore|
Of course, the glowing reviews in the media have helped, especially in high-end multiplexes in urban centers, but we highly doubt if another young star would have driven such numbers for an extremely niche film like October. Given that it’s a medium-budgeted film since Varun graciously and prudently slashed his fee by leaps and bound, the weekend collections almost ensure that the film will now at least break even.
However, the weekdays are key now to deciding where the film will eventually land up. If a steady pace with minimal drops can be maintained, the October will have an outside chance of even turning over a small profit for its distributors, Kino Works.
