Rameshwarnath Kao served as the chief of RAW from 1969 to 1977, in a highly successful tenure, wherein he also functioned as the personal chief security officer of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru. During his tenure as RAW Chief, Kao also held the position of secretary in the Cabinent Secretariat of the Government of India.
