First there was Salman Khan, then came Akshay Kumar, and now it’s M.S. Dhoni. The exalted cricketer’s biopic has become only the fourth film of 2016 to breach the 200-crore threshold at the worldwide box-office. As it stands now, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has grossed an impressive Rs. 209.29 crore worldwide, becoming only the fourth Bollywood film to do so this year after Sultan, Airlfit, and Rustom.
|Domestic Nett||128.07 crore|
|Domestic Gross||179.29 crore|
|Overseas Gross||30 crore|
|Total Worldwide Gross||209.29 crore|
The movie still has another open week at the box-office till the mega-Diwali releases – Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – hit theaters. However, since it’s in its fourth week, the movie would be almost entirely dependent on repeat viewings to add to its numbers, which will, in all probability, slow its progress considerably.
It’s already a ‘clean hit’ both in the domestic and overseas markets (Also read: Detailed BO analysis of the film), and also, the biggest grosser of both Pandey and Sushant’s careers hitherto. However, whether it’ll be able to surpass Rustom’s worldwide gross of Rs. 215 crore to take the third position of 2016 remains to be seen.
