It’s common knowledge by now that Mersal has turned out to be the biggest hit of Thalapathy Vijay‘s illustrious career, not to mention one-of-the-highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Mersal is only the sixth Kollywood film to break into the exclusive 200-crore club and has set a slew of box-office records along the way. But what really puts the icing on the cake is how well the movie has performed outside its core belt of Tamil Nadu.
Besides, raking in the moolah from its dubbed Telugu version, the film has performed reasonable well even in north Indian states. But, the most business for Mersal after its Tamil Nadu collections has come from the overseas market, where it’s showing no signs of slowing down even after 26 days. From twelve overseas territories, the Atlee directorial has grossed a whopping Rs. 71.90 crore, second only to Baahubali 2’s international cume this year when it comes to South films.
|Circuit-Wise||Gross Collection (INR)|
|Sri Lanka||5.60 crore|
|New Zealand||0.18 crore|
|Rest of the World||6.90 crore|
Coupled with its domestic collection, Mersal has grossed a mind-boggling Rs. 294 crore worldwide. A superhit domestically and a blockbuster internationally that’s what’s called a true Diwali bonanza, and, once again, reemphasized the super-stardom of Vijay.
