With the low opening that it took, Manmarziyaan needed huge jumps over the rest of the weekend to retain any hope of performing decently in the long run. However, while the spike in business on Saturday was reasonably good (45.17%), Sunday’s collection grew by a measly 11.55%, paving a tough road ahead for the film at the box-office. The Abhishek Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu-Vicky Kaushal starrer stands at Rs. 14.33 crore nett after its opening weekend, which is at least 2-3 crore lower than what its minimum should have been till now.
|Day One (Friday)||3.52 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||5.11 crore|
|Day Three (Sunday)||5.70 crore|
Whatever footfalls Manmarziyaan is drawing are mostly from high-end multiplexes. The film has performed the best in circuits like Delhi, NCR, and East Punjab on account of its heavy Punjabi flavor and music, but even in these territories, it’s only the swanky multiplexes in urban pockets that are bringing in the business. The Anurag Kashyap directorial should have ideally finished its first weekend on par with similarly budgeted films like Hichki and 102 Not Out, especially with the youth factor in its favor, while those films were meant for family audiences, which tend to hold better during the weekdays.
Unless Manmarziyaan can hold at the same level as the aforementioned films during the weekdays, it’ll struggle to even break even at the box-office.
