Manikarnika collected 15.70 cr nett on Sunday to take its first weekend total at the box-office to a reasonably good 42.55 cr nett. The collections are decent, but should have been 6-7 cr more given the huge costs involved. Sunday’s figures should have been on par with that of Saturday’s.
Without the Republic Day holiday, the collections would have been even less and in the range of female-centric films like Veere Di Wedding and Raazi, which were made on much smaller budgets. The problem stems from Mumbai, Gujarat, and South territories, which are bringing in low numbers. Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and UP are where the real footfalls are being registered.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is made on approx. 125 cr and sold to distributors for approx. 65 cr. The film never a min. of 145 cr nett to be a clean hit. Strong holds are imperative on weekdays for the Kangana Ranaut starrer to sustain in the long run.
