The cast of Ali Abbas Zafar directorial Bharat gets bigger as Jackie Shroff joins the team in the role of Salman Khan’s father. Director Ali Abbas Zafar has confirmed that the veteran actor has signed on to play Salman’s father in the period film, which is an official adaptation of the Korean classic, Ode to My Father, albeit in an Indian setting spanning the era right after we achieved Independence to present times.
Jackie has bagged arguable the most-plum role in the film after Salman’s as the entire plot revolves around the eternal bond shared between a father and son. Talking about Jackie’s casting, Zafar revealed that he’s been looking forward to work with actor since ages, and called him the ideal combination of a star and an actor.
“We met Jaggu da in London and discussed his dates and looks. I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time as I feel he’s the perfect amalgamation of a star and an actor. I was very glad when Jackie sir instantly agreed to do the film in just 20 minutes of narration.”
Bharat traces a 60-year journey of a man (Salman in the eponymous role), and also stars an ensemble cast of Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover, and Tabu. It’s slated to hit screens during Eid next year.
