After a lackluster weekend, the entire trade had their eyes trained on the first Monday for a change in Jab Harry Met Sejal’s fortunes at the box-office. But even a partial holiday for Raksha Bandhan couldn’t bring much solace to the film as it fell by a massive 53.11%, bringing in a poor Rs. 7.15 crore nett, which has all but sealed its fate. The 4-day collection of the film now stands at an extremely disappointing Rs. 52.90 crore nett, and the reports today suggest that another massive drop is on the way.
|Day-Wise||Collection in Nett (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||15.25 Crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||15 Crore|
|Day Three (Sunday)||15.50 Crore|
|Day Four (Monday)||7.15 crore|
Ideally, a film shouldn’t drop beyond 40% of its day one numbers on its first Monday, which gives it a fair chance to hold well during the rest of the week. And in the case of the Imtiaz Ali film, it needed to collect at least 10 crore because of how much it underperformed during the weekend. However, the way things stand now, the film will be lucky to even cross is distribution cost of 75 crore.
JHMS is the lowest ebb for an SRK starrer in a long time, and also give Anushka Sharma her first outright failure since 2015’s Bombay Velvet. Another major disappointment for Bollywood in what has been a deplorable year for the Hindi film industry. All eyes will now be on Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho to help the industry recover.
