There is something about murder mysteries and whodunit thrillers that never gets old. A taut script with crisp direction and edgy performances can never go wrong, and that is why it is no Ittefaq that the remake of the Rajesh Khanna classic looks one of the most promising films of this year.
Back in 1969, Yash Chopra made Ittefaq, a murder mystery, which went on to become one of the most iconic films of Indian, and 48 years later, Abhay Chopra has made his version of the classic with actors like Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles. Earlier today, the makers of the film released character posters with the punch line ‘2 Murders, 2 suspects, 2 versions’, which certainly piqued our interest. However, nothing could have prepared us for the trailer.
We got a chance to catch the trailer before its release, and this one exceeds all expectations. What’s remarkable is that the makers of the film have retained the crux of the old story, but have managed to spin it around to add a lot more intrigue and in sync with the times. Here’s why we think that Ittefaq trailer is something you truly need to watch out for –
1) The perfect marriage of classic story with the current context
The base story remains the same, but the presentation and treatment is very different. The trailer shows story from perspective of both the accused (Sidharth and Sonakshi), and will engulf you into the suspense in no time.
2) Sonakshi Sinha
This lovely lady has certainly come a long way from the ‘Thappad Se Darr Nahin Lagta’ days. She looks suitable frazzled by all the accusations, victimized and yet, her demeanour suggests that there is a lot more behind those layers of innocence.
Also the focus on Nanda’s character wasn’t as much in the original, but in this film, the female is as much a suspect as Sid’s character is, which gives Sonakshi a lot more scope to shine.
3) Sidharth Malhotra
He is intense and sincere. Sidharth will truly make you want to believe in him. Stepping into Rajesh Khanna’s shoes is a tall order, and Sid seems to have done it seamlessly.
4) Akshaye Khanna
Why on earth did Akshaye Khanna disappear from Bollywood. This man makes an impact and how; his character is no nonsense, and is clinically precise and a total delight to watch.
5) Nailing biting moments
A thriller is bound to have its thrilling moments, and Ittefaq trailer gives a glimpse into few of those. We especially dig the car crash scene.
Trailer of the film will release on 5th October 11 AM, and the film will release on 3rd November, 2017.
