Ever since Kangana Ranaut called Karan Johar the flag bearer of Nepotism on Koffee with Karan, the discussion around the subject just refuses to die down, making it one of the most hotly discussed topics ever.
Recently, the debate got fuelled when during IIFA Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan cracked a joke on how they were in the Industry because of their parents and added that Nepotism rocks. They made a joke with reference to Kangana Ranaut. All this did not go down with the junta and the internet did not waste any time in calling out their joke and referred to them as the ‘privileged threesome’.
However, after all that criticism, Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar did something which ought to be appreciated. Realizing his faux paus, Varun Dhawan tweeted an apology, and now, in an interview with NDTV, Karan Johar spoke extensively about how he realized that his joke wasn’t exactly in the best taste and went on to add that he regretted it. Here is what he said,
“Of course I don’t believe that ‘nepotism rocks’. Of course, I believe that only talent rocks. If anything that rocks, it’s your talent, hard work and conviction. It’s the energy you bring to your job. What we said was meant to be a joke, which I think has been misplaced, misunderstood and I think it went wrong. I regret it.”
He also went on to accept full responsibility for the idea,
“The idea of that joke was entirely mine, so I take onus of the idea of what we said. And I think we went a bit too far with the Kangana mention.”
Well, to err is human, and it is refreshing to see that instead of justifying their actions, Varun and Karan accepted their mistakes and apologized for it.
