After surprising one and all by beating Salman Khan’s Tubelight on day one en-route to becoming Allu Arjun’s highest day-one grosser, DJ continued its victory march at the worldwide box-office, grossing another Rs. 13.52 crore to take its 2-day total just shy of the 50-crore mark. The film did witness more than a 50% dip in business, but that’s permissible considering the record-breaking opening it took.
|Day-Wise||Worldwide Gross (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||33 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||13.52 crore|
Domestically, the film added another Rs. 9.32 crore, of which a healthy Rs. 8.05 crore came from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone. It’s domestic business, too, dropped by more than 50%, but the Harish Shankar film is trending positively at the box-office, and is expected to witness a jump today, on Sunday, which should see it finish its first weekend around the 70- crore mark. Monday, being a national holiday for Eid, is again expected to be big, and DJ could finish its 4-day extended weekend with 88-90 crores in its kitty.
|Day-Wise||AP/Telangana Gross (INR)||Rest of India Gross (INR)||Overseas Gross (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||18.36 crore||5.64 crore||9.0 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||8.05 crore||1.27 crore||4.20 crore|
|Total||26.41 crore||6.91 crore||13.20 crore|
The film, with a total landing cost of Rs. 65 crore (including P&A). has been sold for Rs. 60 crore to its AP/Telangana distributors and for 22 crore across the rest of Indian and overseas. A further 23 crore has been earned from satellite rights. So, the producers are already in profit, and if the movie crosses the 100-crore mark nationwide, then its local distributors, too, would be laughing all the way to the bank. DJ should have no problem in doing so, even if it’s hit with the worst-case scenario from tomorrow. Internationally, the film is already a hit.
Considering the mixed reviews that the film garnered, it’s a true testament of Bunny’s star-power that the film is performing so well. The Allu Arjun wave strikes again.
