2017 has been a good year for Bollywood so far. The year started with two major releases like Raees and Kaabil and within five months, five films have entered the 100 crore club. And one of those films, Baahubali 2(Hindi version), is well on its way to become the highest domestic grosser.
But so far, not a single comedy film has hit the theatres in 2017. However, the trailer of Riteish Deshmukh’s Bank Chor dropped and it looked like a promising one. A few hours later, trailer of Diljit Dosanjh’s next Punjabi film, Super Singh released, which was pretty funny too.
And then a day later, trailer of Guest Iin London starring Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Kharbanda, Paresh Rawal and Tanvi Azmi released, which again, promised a rib tickling comedy. Now, three good comedies might have been good news, but all three film are scheduled to release on the same date; ie 16th June, 2017, which is going to be a concern for all the films.
Diljit has a dedicated fan following across North and that will ensure a good opening in that particular region. Same goes for Bank Chor as Riteish has a dedicated following amongst Marathi audience, and Guest Iin London would appeal to multiplex audience. But still, the clash will affect the business of all three films because of the same genre.
