When the Aamir Khan-Pooja Bhatt starrer, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, had released back in 1991, it struck an instant chord with the audience and went to be a huge hit at the box-office. People loved its melodious tracks and innocent romantic setting of strangers meeting on a journey, with different goals and destinations, only to end up helping each other, and ultimately fall madly in love. But, did you’ll know that Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin was a remake of a classic Bollywood film? This Mahesh Bhatt-directed film is clearly inspired from the 1956 film, Chori Chori, which starred legends like Raj Kapoor and Nargis. In fact, many of the scenes and situations in both films are identical.
However, this is where the story gets interesting. Chori Chori itself was a remake of a classic Hollywood film called It Happened One Night, which starred Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, and had gone on the win five Oscars, including Best Picture. Yup, it may be hard to believe, but it’s true. And, just like Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Chori Chori, too, shares many identical scenes with It Happened One Night, which in turn makes them both scene-for-scene remakes of the Hollywood classic.
Too much to wrap you head around? This video, with scenes from all three films, will clarify everything.

We’ve come across many remakes, but this may be the first time that we’ve encountered a double remake.
