Deadpool 2 continued to fly the Hollywood flag high in India courtesy a super-strong weekend, followed by a decent hold on its first Monday, which has earned the film a certified ‘clean hit’ tag at the Indian box-office, making it the third Hollywood movie to do so this year after Black Panther and the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. Incidentally, all three Hollywood hits are superhero films, reaffirming the very real and dangerous threat this particular foreign import poses to our local film industries.
Deadpool 2 has so far collected Rs. 39.40 crore nett, and though the drop on Monday is slightly higher than expected, the film did enough over the weekend to secure ‘hit’ status in four days flat. The decline in its dubbed versions (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada) is more than that of its English version, but that was always on the cards considering its adult tag and the fact that the franchise brand value isn’t as huge as that of The Avengers.
|Day-Wise||Nett Collection (INR)|
|Day One (Friday)||11.25 crore|
|Day Two (Saturday)||10.65 crore|
|Day Three (Sunday)||11.50 crore|
|Day Four (Monday)||4.65 crore|
The film should round off its first week around the 45-crore mark, and is looking at a lifetime total in the 50-55 crore range, making it significantly profitable on its distribution costs, which are nowhere near as high as that of Infinity War.
