Of late, the biopic and period-drama bugs have bitten Bollywood filmmakers, giving actors the chance to real immerse themselves in some amazing real-life characters. Now most of the time, the actors playing these parts, however good their performance may be, portray these great personalities with the aid of prosthetics. After all, some kind of assistance is needed to look like the true-to-life people they enact on screen.
However, there are times, through a combination of brilliant acting and a resemblance borne with the role, that certain actors have played real-life characters without the aid of any kind of prosthetics whatsoever. Check them out below:
1.) Hrithik Roshan in Super 30
Just look at that poster. Now imagine Hrithik pulling it off without prosthetics. If this is a glimpse of things to come, we can’t wait to be mesmerized by another scintillating performance by this marvelous actor in the role of math wizard, Anand Kumar.
2.) Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture
Balan left one and all stunned with her portrayal of arguably South India’s most famous erotic moviestar, Silk Smith’s. What’s even more stunning is that she pulled it off with nothing other than her performance and physicality.
3.) Ranveer Singh in Gully Boy
Ranveer pulled off one of the great acts of modern Hindi cinema as Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat albeit with prosthetics, and he has us looking forward to another potentially terrific act inspired by a real person in Gully Boy. This time though, it’s going to be all Ranveer sans any prosthetic help, and his first look, with that drastic weight loss and gaunt appearance, already has film-buffs licking their lips in anticipation.
4.) Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Prior to BMB, Farhan was known more his direction abilities. Post BMB, he left tons of people impressed with his both his physical and behavioral metamorphosis as the legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, especially considering that it was all natural.
5.) Richa Chadha in Shakeela Khan
Richa has proven her credentials as an actress who can disappear into any character, and as such, she needed no prosthetics to essay the South Indian film industry’s famous adult star, Shakeela – weight gain et al – in the upcoming biopic on the latter.
6.) Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Manto
The role of Saadat Hasan Manto is yet another feather in the cap of this award-winning actor, which has left not only audiences in India, but all over the world awestruck with his unbelievable performance minus a single prosthetic
7.) Anupam Kher in The Accidental Prime Minister
Anupama Kher looks like a clone of ex PM Manmohan Singh, and that, too, purely by his mannerisms, expressions, demeanor, and a turban, which was, basically, unavoidable.
Which of these performances do you like the most?
