Bhumi Pednekar has hit the jackpot. There’s strong buzz that the actress has been roped in opposite Shah Rukh Khan for the Rakesh Sharma biopic, Salute, where she’ll play the pivotal role of the astronaut’s wife, Madhu, an interior designer by profession and a pillar of support to Rakesh in real life.
Earlier reports suggested that Kareena Kapoor Khan would be starring as the film’s female leadership after she and SRK has buried a few differences that had cropped up between them in the past. However, it now appears that her dates and remuneration haven’t worked out as not only are the makers are looking to roll the film by year end after the release of SRK’s Zero, but are also aiming to restrict its budget, thus giving it a better shot at the box-office.
Sources claim that once talks fell through with Kareena for these reasons, the makers were on the lookout to pair Shah Rukh with an actress he hasn’t worked with in the past, and given Bhumi’s acting chops, she seemed the ideal candidate. We must say that Bhumi Pednekar is taking rapid strides in Bollywood – first two big hits last year in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, one of which was opposite Akshay Kumar; followed by her bagging a plum role in Karan Johar’s period multi-starrer Takht; and now a film opposite King Khan himself. Way to go, girl!
