One-of-the-main reasons that everyone has been waiting with bated breath for Thugs of Hindostan ever since its announcement, making it one-of-the-most-anticipated films in recent times, is because two of Indian cinema’s biggest legends and best actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, are coming together on screen for the first time. However, unbeknownst to many, the two icons were supposed to do a film together twenty years ago, which got shelved due to unknown reasons. Aamir opened up about the same during the recent trailer launch of Thugs.
“Amitji and I were supposed to work in a film together called Rishta that Indra Kumar (Dil, Beta, Ishq, Masti) was going to make. It was announced way back in 1998, but due to several reasons, it couldn’t take off. Since then, I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to work with him (Bachchan) in a film. I’m glad it has finallyhappened now. I don’t have the guts to say ‘no’ to a film with Amitji.”
Fewer still are aware that after Rishta, Bachchan Sr. and Aamir were supposed to a film called Happy Diwali together, but that, too, got shelved due to reasons unknown. Like Aamir, we, and probably the rest of the country, too, are glad that they’re finally sharing screen space. Fingers crossed that Thugs of Hindostan does justice to their long awaited union.
