Now that the censor certificate has been acquired, the makers of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 102nd film, Jai Simha, have gone into overdrive prepping for the film’s release, and, in fact, have already zeroed in on a release date. They’ve chosen 12th January 2018 as the official release date of the movie, with an attempt to take advantage of the Sankranti weekend. However, this sets the film up for a box-office clash with another biggie.
Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi, has already been scheduled to release on 10th January 2018, two days prior to a normal Friday release on 12th January to try and take advantage of the entire Sankranti week. And to be fair, Agnyaathavaasi is a much-bigger film than Jai Simha, carrying better buzz at the moment, which could prove detrimental for the latter’s prospect and backfire the makers’ decision to exploit the Sankranti weekend.
On the other hand, Jai Simha is carrying a much-smaller budget compared to Agnyaathavaasi, so if it generate good word-of-mouth and the opposite happens for Pawan’s film, then it could prove difficult for Agnyaathavaasi to turn over profits on its huge budgets. Plus, both Power Star and Balayya’s last films didn’t do well critically or commercially, so both need a big hit. Time will tell which film wins the Sankranti race.
Agnyaathavaasi is directed by Trivikram Srinivas and also stars Keerthy Suresh while Jai Simha is helmed by K. S. Ravikumar and stars Lady Superstar Nayanthara as the female lead.
