Actors With The Most National Awards

NEWS

The National Award is undoubtedly the highest owner in the country that any film or its Director, cast, and crew could receive, and as such, remains an extremely exclusive club. You’ll seldom see the vast majority of actors nominated or winning in awards in other shows, ever being even considered for a National Award.

In fact, many of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars like Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir, Hrithik, Vijay, Rajinikanth, Ajith, Chiranjeevi, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Sivaji Ganesan, NTR, Jr. NTR, Dilip kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, and Allu Arjun have never won a National Award – that’s how tough it is to be bestowed with the honor given by none less that the President of the country. This next bit of trivia will put the rarity of winning a National Award into perspective: Though Indian cinema produces film in about 20 languages, the actors whose performances have earned a National Award only belong to seven of those languages.

Nevertheless, even in this tough scenario, there have been actors who’ve won the National Award on more than one occasion. Legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Kamal Haasan – widely considered among the best actors in the country – have won the award on three to four occasions (not including their producing honors), while other respected names like Prkash Raj – revered actors who don’t induce mass hysteria like some stars do – have also own the award multiple times. Of all the actors who’ve won a National Award to date, only two – Mithun Chakraborty (Hindi and Bengali) and Mammootty (Malayalam and English) – have won it for two different languages.

Here’s a list of actors who’ve won the elusive National Film Award multiple times:
