Actors with the maximum highest-grossers of the year

box office

There's a huge prestige attached to being part of a film that ends up being the highest grosser of the year. And if you're the lead star of that film, then the prestige is even greater. So many actors go through their entire career without ever delivering the year's top film at the box-office. For instance, huge stars like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Sunil Dutt have never had an annual highest grosser to their name.

And then, there are stars who've headlined not one or two, but multiple top grossers of the year. Such is the fan-following of these actors that many a time, they've delivered the year end 's highest grossing Bollywood film in successive years. Unfortunately, you'll never find an actress among them because the harsh truth of any film industry around the world (not just Bollywood) is that the audience flocks to theaters to see big-budget movies starring big male stars. Rarely does a Nargis (Mother India) or a Madhuri Dixit (Beta) finish the year with the biggest grosser.

As you can see, Salman Khan is the undisputed champ (and looks like consolidating his place on the top in the coming years), closely followed by Aamir Khan (who’s fast catching up to him due to his meteoric rise in the last decade). Dilip Kumar at third place is an absolute revelation and shows how he dominated the box-office unlike any other of his era. Shah Rukh Khan, who comes in fourth (along with Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan), was leading the way among his contemporaries for a brief period before both Salman and Aamir overtook him. However, a few good films, and he could again challenge them for all money. Hirthik Roshan is another actor who has cemented his stardom in this list within a short span while Manoj Kumar, Anil Kapoor, and Sunny Deol are some surprise entrants. The other older actors who make the cut are the usual suspects like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, and Rajesh Khanna.

Will any other actor be part of this list in future? Time alone will tell.
