Calling 2017 a bad year for Bollywood at the box-office would be a euphemism of epic proportions. Films have been flopping left, right, and center, whether it be small films, big films, masala films, niche films, light films, dark film, star-driven film, or any other type of film you could think of. As of writing this piece, only eight Hindi films have hitherto achieved clean hit status in 2017, drawing further focus to just how deplorable a year it has been for the industry.
The surprising aspect that come to light upon a bit of scrutiny of 2017’s hit films is that there are actors who’ve delivered back-to-back hits even in such a disastrous year. While the audience has spared no one, with the biggest of stars are upcoming hotshots having fallen flat on their face, there have been a handful of actors (both established stars and upcoming ones) who’ve managed to eke out dual hits and be the saving grace for Bollywood in 2017.

Check out the actors who’ve managed to deliver back-to-back hits in what has been the worst financial year for Bollywood by a country mile.
1.) Akshay Kumar
The hit machine since the beginning of 2016, continued his impressive run this year as well, with both Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha striking gold at the ticket window within a space of six months no less. Where other superstar films have fallen way below expectations this year, Akshay has been the one spark, who’s not only kept the flag flying high for pedigree moviestars, but has also delivered big hits that have brought in good amount of dough for the trade.
2.) Ayushmann Khurrana
Ayushmann has been the surprise package of the year. His first release of 2017, Meri Pyaari Bindu, may have tanked, but since then, the guy’s been on a roll. Akshay’s streak may be more impressive in terms of longevity and numbers, but Ayushmann has almost done the impossible in this day and age by delivering back-to-back hits – Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan – within a span of two weeks. Not to mention that his hits have been a boon for smaller films in a year, where they’ve been as badly rejected as their big-budget counterparts.
3.) Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi has had some start to her career. Three release so far, and all three have been clean hits. Her hits have crossed paths with Akshay and Ayushmann, but there’s no taking away from the fact that she was way more than just a showpiece in these films. Bhumi held her own before a much senior actor like Akshay in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, and then, almost outclassed Ayushmann in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Her career is off to a rollicking start both as an actress and a box-office force to reckon with.
If there’s one actor that’s all but a shoe-in to join the others on this list, then it’s Varun Dhawan. Further enhancing his ever-burgeoning stardom with Badrinath Ki Dulhania, earlier this year, Varun’s Judwaa 2 is well on it’s way to become one of the highest grossers of 2017.
Small mercies; but kudos to these actors for not only enhancing their box-office standings, but also giving Bollywood some reason to smile in 2017.
